Cortez Masto: Trump Carbon Rule Reversal Attacks Our Communities, Country, & Kids Future

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after the Trump administration announced its reversal of environmental standards reducing carbon dioxide emissions and protecting clean air.

“Today’s announcement is yet another example of failed climate leadership by this President. This Administration’s rule trims less than a tenth of the carbon emissions as the previous rule and allows states to opt out of regulating emissions altogether. Reversing these protections will harm communities throughout our country, and increased carbon pollution will only contribute even more to the challenges we see in Nevada on a host of issues including drought, extreme weather, and wildfires. This President should be leading our country, like the State of Nevada already is, in supporting research and production of cleaner energy sources that also create good paying jobs like renewables and natural gas. This announcement is an attack on our communities, our country, and our kids’ future and I will do all I can to fight it.”
