Always check your passport expiration date before planning international travel. Make sure to request your new passport or passport renewal significantly in advance of your international travel.

The State Department is seeing an influx of passport applications due to the busy travel season and has increased processing times. For current processing times, click here.

For a passport status update you can visit the Department of State’s Website to track the current status of your application. Mailing times are not included in processing times and can take up to two weeks for applications to arrive at a passport agency or center.

If you are looking to schedule an in-person appointment, passport agencies are open by appointment only for those with urgent travel within 14 days. The Department of State offers two appointment types either Life-or-Death Emergency services or Urgent Travel Service. For additional information click here. If you would like to upgrade to expedited processing and shipping, you can contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.

If you are looking to apply for a renewal or initial passport you can visit the How to Apply page for more information.
