Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced $324,437 in Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grants awarded to public improvement projects in Lincoln and Mineral counties.
“Nevada’s public parks bring communities together by encouraging Nevadans to get outdoors, enjoy time with friends and family and stay healthy. This grant funding will support important improvements and upgrades to the Lions Park Pool and Echo Canyon State Park. We’ll continue to fight to ensure permanent and full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund so all the Silver State’s public spaces are maintained and accessible for Nevadans to enjoy.”
BACKGROUND:
This grant is awarded through the National Park Service with funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). LWCF grants are locally determined and competed for at the state level through a process designed and managed by state partners. Since 1965, the National Park Service has provided more than 40,000 LWCF grants to states and local communities. Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen recently cosponsored legislation to permanently fund the LWCF at a level of $900 million. Earlier this year both Senators voted for the bipartisan Natural Resources Management Act, landmark legislation signed into law in March that permanently reauthorized LWCF.
The grant funding will be awarded as follows:
- $290,123 to Echo Canyon State Park to rehabilitate and upgrade the accessibility of their campgrounds.
- $34,312.29 to the Lions Park Pool in Mineral County to replace the pool’s filtration and heating systems.
