Cortez Masto: On Tax Day Nevadans Wonder How Much Damage GOP Plan Will Have On Their Family’s Future

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement on Tax Day 2018 and the detrimental long-term impact of the #GOPTaxScam on Nevada families:

“The biggest concern I hear from Nevadans on the Republican tax plan is what this bill means for their future and their family’s financial security. We know that while the Republican tax plan may result in a modest break for some middle class families in the short term, these cuts will expire while big corporations and the top 1% will receive a permanent tax break.

“We’ve already seen the impact of the Republican tax give away: more than 100,000 Americans have lost their jobs while companies announce billions of dollars in stock buybacks and bonuses for top executives as they move more American jobs and profits overseas. Republicans chose to balloon the deficit by $1.5 trillion on the backs of our hard working families. Now, the Republicans are using these deficits they created as an excuse to go after important programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, affordable health care and housing for working class families, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for low-income Americans. As President Trump and the Republican leadership in Congress continue to harm and turn their backs on hardworking families, I will continue to be a check on them and a strong advocate for programs that help lift families out of poverty, strengthen our middle class, and give our kids a shot at a brighter future.”
