Cortez Masto Announces Federal NeighborWorks Grants to Support Affordable Housing in Southern Nevada

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement applauding NeighborWorks America for awarding grant funds to two Southern Nevada non-profit organizations dedicated to providing Nevada families with affordable housing and home ownership assistance.

“Nevada’s economy continues to grow at a record rate, and yet we have the lowest supply of affordable homes of any state in the nation. All Nevadans deserve a secure and stable place to live, which is why expanding the supply of affordable homes is one of my top priorities in the Senate. I commend NeighborWorks for their tireless work to supply local organizations with the tools they need to help their communities build and maintain safe, affordable housing. I will continue to fight for critical resources, including federal grant money from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funded programs like NeighborWorks, to ensure that we are providing much-needed support to struggling Nevadans.”

BACKGROUND

NeighborWorks is a congressionally-chartered, non-profit organization funded by the federal government and dedicated to providing resources, training and grant funding to local grassroots organizations working to provide communities with affordable housing and sustainable real estate development.

  • $244,000 to the Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada, Inc.
  • $439,444 to Nevada H.A.N.D, Inc.
