Cortez Masto Meets With Nevada Seniors, Rolls Out Senior Resource Guide

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today hosted a virtual roundtable with representatives of several Nevada seniors’ groups to discuss the challenges they continue to face during the coronavirus pandemic. She also introduced her Senior Resource Guide, a print and online brochure that provides Nevada’s seniors with information, resources, and guidance in obtaining federal benefits.

“I’m working to get additional support for Nevada seniors—funding for everything from vaccines to food to housing and other essential services. I was glad to get an opportunity today to hear more about seniors’ needs in Nevada, and I’ll continue to push in the Senate for more resources to assist them. My Senior Resource Guide is just another way to support seniors and give them access to vital information about Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, veterans benefit, COVID-19 resources, and more.”

BACKGROUND:

Senator Cortez Masto has been working during the pandemic to support Nevada seniors. She has cosponsored the Emergency Housing Assistance for Older Adults Act, which would provide the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with $1.2 billion for sanitation supplies, personal protective equipment, Wi-Fi, additional service coordinators and a one-year extension of the iWish Program in HUD-assisted housing communities. She is also a cosponsor of the Nursing Homes COVID-19 Protection and Prevention Act to provide $20 billion to help states, nursing homes and intermediate care facilities contain the spread of COVID-19 in congregate settings. In addition, she has cosponsored the Community Services Block Grant Refinement and Improvement Act, which would allow Nevada to receive additional funding of $3.625 million in Community Service Block Grants from the CARES Act to expand SNAP benefits.
