Las Vegas, Nev. – Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) hosted a roundtable for Southern Nevada leaders in education, energy, business, tourism, and transportation, as well as local government officials, to discuss the future of transportation in Las Vegas.
This meeting mirrors a roundtable Cortez Masto held in 2017, during her first year in office, to ensure she was working with local stakeholders to deliver what Nevada needs at the federal level. Transportation has consistently been one of Cortez Masto’s top priorities, whether she’s fighting to bring the nation’s first high-speed rail into reality or securing millions in critical funding for Nevada from the Department of Transportation to respond to population growth or increase safety. With an upcoming federal transportation bill reauthorization, Cortez Masto brought a diverse slate of stakeholders to the table to discuss what is needed to efficiently move Nevada’s workers, families, and visitors, and to reduce deadly accidents on our roads.
“I’ll work with anyone – in any party and any industry – to spur economic growth and create good-paying jobs in the Silver State,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I am proud of the work I have already done to deliver for Nevada’s transportation systems, and I look forward to continuing to collaborate with our strong leaders in transportation to welcome millions of visitors and get Nevadans where they need to go safely.”
Among others, representatives from the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, the Nevada Department of Transportation, Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, the Clark County School District, the College of Southern Nevada, the Nevada State University, the Nevada System of Higher Education, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, the Army of the Tread, NV Energy, Boulder City, the City of Henderson, the City of Las Vegas, the Nevada Association Counties, Brightline West, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, Uber, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Harry Reid International Airport, the Office of Governor Lombardo, and Workforce Connections were present.
Through her Innovation State Initiative, Senator Cortez Masto has worked across the board to strengthen and diversify Nevada’s economy and create new jobs by passing legislation to upgrade American infrastructure, support Nevada’s manufacturing industry, and invest in Nevada’s booming clean-energy economy. The Senator’s first bipartisan bill, the Moving FIRST Act was signed into law and is now providing SMART transportation innovations in Nevada. She has consistently supported programs and grants that provide job training to young Nevadans so they can access good-paying jobs, like those in the field of transportation, without a four-year degree.
