Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today hosted a webinar in honor of Congressional Startup Day, a nationwide celebration of entrepreneurial communities that took place on August 12th. The event will include leaders of startups discussing their successes, challenges, and obstacles in Nevada.
“I was thrilled to talk today to so many energetic people leading startups in Nevada and working to get them the support they need to grow and generate good-paying jobs. Although the economic downturn caused by coronavirus has had a negative impact on Nevada’s economy, we’re seeing positive signs that startups are gaining steam again, as new business applications have surged above their 2019 level. I know that Nevada’s entrepreneurs are already thinking about new ideas, creating new products and services, and supporting new jobs, and I am working in the Senate to get them the resources they need to thrive.”
During her time in the Senate, Senator Cortez Masto has supported Nevada’s economy as it works to diversify. To ensure that Nevada is well-positioned to lead on the technologies of the 21st century, she launched her Innovation State Initiative, a comprehensive effort to support Nevada’s innovation economy and the businesses that are driving the state forward. Senator Cortez Masto has introduced bipartisan legislation to help startups work with universities to get access to infrastructure and expertise for research and development projects. She has also led a bipartisan bill to help children in underserved school districts get access to the knowledge and mentorship they need to succeed. In addition, she has worked across the aisle on legislation to promote new technologies like artificial intelligence and support the work Nevada is doing on drone testing and development.
