Cortez Masto, Community Leaders Highlight Impact of Recently-Passed Tax Bill on Nevada Families

Reno, Nev. – Today,  U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), along with Food Bank of Northern Nevada President and CEO Nicole Lamboley and The Children’s Cabinet CEO Kim Young highlighted the impact of the recently passed tax law on families in Northern Nevada, which made devastating cuts to food assistance. These cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will leave 40 million Americans across the country without access to food, including 16 million children, 8 million seniors, and 1.2 million veterans.

“The cuts to food assistance that my Republican colleagues voted for will have a direct effect on working families,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Our families right here in Reno will suffer as a result. I’m going to keep working with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and The Children’s Cabinet to fight for the resources they need to support Nevada families.”

Senator Cortez Masto is a steadfast supporter of Nevada families and will continue to fight to ensure every family is able to put food on the table. Earlier this year, Senator Cortez Masto demanded the Administration reverse its cuts to food purchase and school food assistance programs. The Senator helped pass critical expansions to the Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue plan, and has been fighting to permanently increase this vital relief for working families. Last Congress, Cortez Masto introduced legislation to increase food security in Tribal communities. ###
