Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement on the DREAM Act:
“DREAMers are an integral part of our communities – not only do they contribute to our economy, they enrich our everyday lives. They are our teachers, engineers, leaders, business owners and so much more; they are our neighbors and friends. It is wrong that these productive young women and men who were brought to this country as children face constant uncertainty about their future. We must instead help them live up to their full potential and protect them from being targeted by politics based on hate and vitriol.
“Now more than ever DACA is under grave threat. Passing this long-overdue legislation could not come at a more crucial time. I am encouraged that both sides of the aisle are trying to do the right thing and I believe this is step in the right direction as we aim to address our broken immigration system. I am also hopeful that this will lead us to finding more solutions, like passing comprehensive immigration reform.”
