Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced $593,533.35 in grant funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) awarded to Spooner Lake Nevada State Park as part of a public-private partnership project to develop a new visitor’s center and amphitheater and improve park facilities.
“Spooner Lake is just one of Northern Nevada’s many beautiful outdoor recreation areas that has benefited from the Land and Water Conservation Fund,” said the Senators. “Nevada’s public parks bring families together, teach our children the importance of conservation and encourage us to get active, which is why we’ll continue to fight for full and permanent funding for the LWCF and for deferred maintenance funding for our public land areas.”
BACKGROUND:
The National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) State & Local Assistance Program provides matching grants for local and state park projects outside national park boundaries. Since 1965, the National Park Service has provided more than 40,000 LWCF grants to states and local communities. Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen recently cosponsored The Great American Outdoors Act to provide full and permanent funding for the LWCF and address the $12 billion maintenance backlog in our National Parks System. Both Senators also voted for the bipartisan Natural Resources Management Act, landmark legislation signed into law in March 2019 that permanently reauthorized LWCF.
The grant funding will be awarded as follows:
- $593,533.35 to the Spooner Lake Trailhead Facility and Amphitheater to develop a new visitor’s center and amphitheater and improve park facilities.
