Cortez Masto, Rosen Announce $6 Million in Grants to Nevada Health Centers Fighting Coronavirus

Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced $6,253,215 in grant funding to help community health centers maintain capacity and detect, prevent, diagnose, and treat coronavirus. This funding was appropriated in the recently passed Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

“Nevada’s health centers are on the front lines battling this pandemic, screening patients, and keeping our communities safe.” said the Senators. “As more Nevadans turn to health centers for testing and treatment, these funds will help providers across the state replenish their resources, protect their brave heath care workers, and continue to deliver compassionate, quality and life-saving care. We will continue to fight for more urgently-needed funding for these critical providers.”

BACKGROUND:

This funding is a result of the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which both Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen voted in support of, and which was signed into law on March 27, 2020. This funding was distributed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). HRSA-funded health centers may use the awards to help communities across the country detect coronavirus; prevent, diagnose, and treat COVID-19; and maintain or increase health capacity and staffing levels to address this public health emergency. Community health centers are critical to Nevada’s health care safety net.
