Cortez Masto: Our National Monuments are Worth Fighting For

U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released a new video urging Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to protect Nevada’s national monuments, while highlighting the overwhelming amount of Nevadans who have reached out via emails and letters to call on Senator Cortez Masto and Secretary Zinke to defend Gold Butte and Basin and Range from being revoked by the Trump administration:

“Secretary Zinke is in Nevada this weekend and he’s going to be looking at Gold Butte and he’s going to be looking at Basin and Range with the sole thought of how he can either rescind them or roll back the footprint of our national monuments,” Cortez Masto said. “Let me tell you now: those monuments are worth fighting for.”

“I am here in my mailroom in the U.S. Senate and I have with me a number of letters. This is representative of the 90,000 emails and letters that I have received asking Secretary Zinke and me to protect our national monuments for the same reasons that I just told you about. They want to be able to enjoy and protect them for the future, including our Native American reservations, where there are some sacred sites within these monuments.”
