Senator Catherine Cortez Masto meets with top-10 team from Battle Mountain High School

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) met with students from Battle Mountain High School today to discuss their top-10 finish in the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association’s 15th Annual Capitol Hill Challenge. Cortez Masto sponsored the Battle Mountain team to participate in the competition. The team finished 10th overall amongst thousands of participants and earned the opportunity to come to Washington, D.C.

“The students I met today represent the future of Nevada and I couldn’t be prouder for what they’ve accomplished,” Cortez Masto said. “Through this program, our next generation of leaders were able to learn valuable lessons about the importance of financial literacy. I’m committed to supporting students from every corner of our great state by providing them the resources and opportunities to learn and grow personally and academically.”

BACKGROUND:

The Capitol Hill Challenge matches Members of Congress with students, teachers and schools in their state who are competing in The Stock Market Game. The Stock Market Game is a competition between students from all 50 states (as well as Guam, Puerto Rico, and DC as of this year) where student teams manage a hypothetical $100,000 online portfolio over 14 weeks. The 10 winning teams are rewarded with a trip to Washington D.C. This year marks the 15th annual Stock Market Game Capitol Hill Challenge (CHC), which allows students to learn about fiscal policy and the economy through a hands-on educational tool.
