Cortez Masto Joins Bill to Protect Women’s Access to IVF

Washington, D.C. – Following last week’s Alabama Supreme Court ruling that threatened women’s access to IVF, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) is cosponsoring legislation to protect every American’s right to access in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and other assisted reproductive technology that millions of women rely on to have children. The Access to Family Building Act would establish a legal right to IVF and other assisted reproductive services, overriding any state effort to unnecessarily limit or ban access. Hopeful parents—or their doctors—should not be punished for trying to start or grow a family.

“Anti-choice extremists have rolled back women’s access to abortion care, and now they’re trying to attack IVF procedures that millions of women use each year to grow their families,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Women’s reproductive rights are being threatened nationwide, and we have to keep fighting back. That’s why I’m cosponsoring legislation to ensure women across the country can continue to use IVF and make their own choices about their families and their futures.”

Senator Cortez Masto has been fierce advocate for women’s reproductive rights. In response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Cortez Masto introduced the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act to ensure legal protections for women traveling across state lines to receive reproductive care. She’s championed the Women’s Health Protection Act to guarantee equal access to abortion everywhere. She’s also a cosponsor of legislation to codify the right to contraception, and has urged the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to protect the data privacy of women seeking reproductive care. She took on one of the nation’s biggest pharmaceutical wholesalers to ensure Nevadans will be able to access the abortion pill in retail pharmacies, including Walgreens.
