Cortez Masto Cosponsors Bill to Rescind President’s Anti-Climate Executive Order

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) cosponsored legislation led by U.S. Senator Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) to rescind President Trump’s Executive Order to reverse several landmark U.S. initiatives to combat climate change.

“The Clean Power Plan and other environmental protections motivate states to shift toward clean energy economies, improve our air and water quality, and protect our public lands for our communities,” said Cortez Masto. “Its reversal will affect the health and wellbeing of Nevadans, along with potential loss of revenue and jobs provided by the state’s outdoor recreation and clean energy economy.”

The bill, titled the Clean Air Healthy Kids Act, would block the Executive Order signed Tuesday by President Trump. This Order would initiate the dismantling of many important health and environmental protections, like the Clean Power Plan, which is currently on track to provide $54 billion in climate and health benefits each year, prevent thousands of premature deaths and asthma attacks in children, reduce electricity bills for homes and businesses, and create thousands of good-paying jobs.
