Cortez Masto Celebrates Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which falls on Monday, January 21st.

“As we honor the life and legacy of Dr. King, let us reflect on the true spirit of his work. Dr. King preached the power of love to drive out hate, but he understood that loving America meant demanding that she live up to the principles upon which she was founded. He stood up to injustice in all its forms and challenged the powerful to do what was right instead of what was popular. For this, Dr. King was considered radical.

“Today, Dr. King is rightfully recognized as one of the greatest Americans in history. Though his work remains unfinished, his example serves as a constant reminder that the right path isn’t always the easiest. It’s that lesson that inspires me to use my office to advocate for the rights of Nevadans, and all Americans and fight the division and discord sowed by the President that stands in stark contrast to the unity championed by Dr. King. I’ll continue working in Congress to further Dr. King’s vision for a fairer, more just America.”
