Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $2,605,791 to support child health and wellness programs in Northern Nevada and that the Department of Education has awarded $2,369,676 to Nevada institutions of higher education to fund student support services and promote academic development.
“These grant funds will help support Nevada education programs from early childhood interventions to higher education, providing Nevada’s students with the resources they need to thrive. I’ll continue fighting for federal funding to ensure all Nevada’s children have access to high-quality educational opportunities.”
BACKGROUND:
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funding will be distributed as follows:
- $2,294,382 for Head Start of Northeastern Nevada
- $311,409 to the University of Nevada, Reno for the Research for Mothers and Children program
The U.S. Department of Education Student Support Services Program provides institutions of higher education with funding to promote academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. The funding will be distributed as follows:
- $879,234 to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
- $671941 to the University of Nevada, Reno
- $294,725 to the College of Southern Nevada
- $261,888 to Truckee Meadows Community College
- $261,888 to Nevada State College
