Cortez Masto Announces Departure of Chief of Staff Scott Fairchild, Names Reynaldo Benitez as New Chief of Staff
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced the departure of her Chief of Staff of nearly two years, Scott Fairchild. Today, Cortez Masto named Reynaldo Benitez as her new Chief of Staff.
“Scott has been a steadfast advisor on a host of critical issues, and his keen strategic sense has been crucial to me in my first years,” said Cortez Masto. “He has been crucial to helping me establish my office and in fighting for the interests of the people of Nevada. I look forward to continuing to work with Scott at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.”
Scott Fairchild will be leaving the Senator’s office to take over as Executive Director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC). Before joining Senator Cortez Masto’s office as Chief of Staff, Fairchild served as the Senator’s Campaign Manager during her successful 2016 race for the Senate. In addition, he has served as national campaign director for the League of Conservation Voters and chief of staff to former Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.).
“While Scott won’t be heading very far, I’m proud to elevate Rey Benitez to Chief of Staff in my office,” continued Cortez Masto. “Rey’s strategic counsel as my Special Advisor and former Communications Director, as well as his deep ties to Nevada have made him an invaluable resource to me since the campaign. From fighting for Dreamers, to ensuring we stopped the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and stood up for hardworking Nevada families, Rey has been at the center.”
Benitez currently serves as Special Advisor for Senator Cortez Masto. He previously served as Senator Cortez Masto’s Communications Director and worked on her successful Senate campaign in 2016. Previous to that Benitez served as Senior Adviser to former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
This transition will take place the third week of December.
