Cortez Masto: Republican Attack on Reproductive Choice is a Distraction in the Midst of a Crisis

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement today, condemning a vote to restrict women’s reproductive choice in the midst of a government funding crisis:

“Once again, the party of ‘limited’ government has tried to pass a law regulating women’s reproductive decisions. This proposal would have placed a ban on abortions after twenty weeks, with no exceptions for pregnancies that involve severe fetal abnormalities or threats to a mother’s health. Abortions after twenty weeks are rare and often occur under extremely complex, difficult circumstances. In such cases, women need to have access to all the available options in order to make the right decision for their families and for their health. I am proud to have voted against this bill, and will continue to oppose any piece of legislation that places restrictions on a woman’s fundamental right to choose.”
