Cortez Masto, Luján, Padilla, and Gallego Statement on Trump Administration’s Decision to Make it Easier to Deport DACA Recipients

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressional Hispanic Caucus Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), and Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) released a statement following the Trump Administration’s cruel and indefensible decision to make it easier to deport DACA recipients. The new precedent published by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) says being a DACA recipient is not enough reason to provide relief from deportation.

“This Administration is lying to the American people about its treatment of Dreamers,” said the Senators. “Donald Trump said that Dreamers should ‘feel safe,’ but every action his government takes weakens the DACA program and threatens the safety and livelihoods of the 500,000 DACA recipients who have only ever known this country as home.

“Dreamers are our friends and neighbors. They don’t deserve this. We will not stop fighting back against the cruel, anti-immigrant obsession of Trump, Stephen Miller, and their loyalists.”
