Cortez Masto Joins Bill to Stop Trump from Sending Billions in Taxpayer Dollars to Argentina

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined a bill led by U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) that would prohibit President Trump’s use of Treasury Department funds to bail out Argentina’s financial markets and global investors. The No Argentina Bailout Act would prevent the use of taxpayer dollars to send funds to Trump’s foreign allies.

“While families in Nevada are struggling to afford everything from a cup of coffee to housing, President Trump is sending taxpayer dollars to bail out his friends in Argentina,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “It’s time to stop this nonsense plan to send $40 billion to Javier Milei’s regime and focus on commonsense, bipartisan solutions to actually help struggling Americans.”

The No Argentina Bailout Act would end the ability of the Trump administration to provide unilateral financial support to Argentina during Argentina President Javier Milei’s term. It would prohibit Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent from using the Exchange Stabilization Fund to provide direct or indirect financial assistance to Argentina, including through the use of currency swap lines, currency or sovereign debt purchases, or direct loans. Senator Cortez Masto has also condemned the Trump administration’s decision to import more Argentinian beef, harming Nevada’s ranchers.

In stark opposition to President Trump, Senator Cortez Masto has consistently put American families and workers first, fighting to lower costs for Nevadans. She has championed legislation to end taxes on tips and worked to address barriers in its implementation. She introduced comprehensive legislation to lower taxes for working Americans. Cortez Masto has also fought to prevent the Trump administration from bailing out Big Pharma at the expense of seniors and cancer patients.
