Cortez Masto Applauds AmeriCorps VISTA Grant to Nevada Homeless Alliance

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement applauding AmeriCorps for awarding a VISTA program grant of $62,358 to the Nevada Homeless Alliance.

“Nearly 24,900 people will experience homelessness in Southern Nevada this year. Organizations like the Nevada Homeless Alliance provide crucial support to those in need. It is vital we invest in non-profits that are on the front lines fighting to help end homelessness and improve access to the resources Nevadans need to get themselves back on the their feet. All Nevadans deserve safe and stable housing which evidence shows, leads to better health, better job opportunities and helps kids do better in school.”

BACKGROUND:

The AmeriCorps VISTA project is a national service program designed to alleviate poverty in America by funding AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve full time for one year at a non-profit organization or local government agency. The AmeriCorps VISTA project with the Nevada Homeless Alliance will place three AmeriCorps members with the organization and is intended to help increase the organizational capacity of homeless service agencies in Clark County.
