How the Republican Tax Law Impacts Nevada<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

On July 4th, 2025, President Trump signed H.R. 1, the Republican tax bill, into law. I voted against this bill because it cut nearly $1 trillion<\/b> from Medicaid, raised energy costs<\/b>, and slashed food assistance<\/b> programs used by 40 million Americans <\/b>while adding $4 trillion to the deficit<\/b>. Republicans in Congress did all of this to cut taxes for\u00a0the top 0.1%\u00a0while raising cost on working families.<\/p>

Here\u2019s how Republicans\u2019 tax law will affect our state:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Republicans’ Medicaid cuts will delay care, drive up costs for everyone, and even force hospitals and clinics in our communities to reduce services or shut down entirely.<\/strong><\/p>

    • Over 100,000 Nevadans could lose their Medicaid coverage due to new red tape reporting requirements and the rollback of rules that helped families keep their coverage.<\/li>
    • The Republican tax law also cuts about $8 billion from the Medicaid funding used to support Nevada hospitals, health centers, and health care providers. That’s a nearly 20% reduction in funding for our state.<\/li><\/ul> <\/div>\n\t\t \n
      \n\t\t\t\t

      The Republican tax law failed to extend tax credits that lower Affordable Care Act premiums for middle-class families, potentially pricing Nevadans out of their coverage.<\/strong><\/p>

      • Over 20,000 Nevadans could lose their Nevada Health Link coverage as a result of Republicans’ law.<\/li>
      • Tens of thousands of Nevadans could see their monthly premiums increase as the enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits expire.<\/li>
      • Rising uninsured rates could raise costs for others with private insurance, create delays, and force reductions in service or closures at health centers in Nevada.<\/li><\/ul> <\/div>\n\t\t \n

        The Republican tax law could create delays for care and even force hospitals serving Medicare enrollees to close as it spreads chaos in our health care system.<\/strong><\/p>

        • Nevadans with Medicare in rural areas could be forced to travel hundreds of miles for care as clinics and hospitals lose their Medicaid funding.<\/li>

            • By canceling investments in clean, American energy, this law could kill countless new power plants in Nevada needed to meet future energy demand, pushing costs even higher for families and businesses.<\/li>
            • The law also cancels programs that helped Nevada homeowners install energy-efficient upgrades, raising costs for families across the state.<\/li><\/ul> <\/div>\n\t\t \n
              \n\t\t\t\t

              Cutting investments in American energy projects in Nevada could lead to thousands of Nevadans losing their jobs, and threaten even more jobs as the cost of energy rises.<\/strong><\/p>

              • Republicans’ cuts to American clean energy could put 24,000 jobs in Nevada on the line as new solar, geothermal, wind, and hydroelectric projects are canceled.<\/li>
              • Soaring energy costs could drive American manufacturing and even more jobs overseas.<\/li>

                The Republican tax law makes changes to food assistance like the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program that could leave Nevadans going hungry.<\/strong><\/p>

                • The law adds more layers of government red tape to SNAP, making it harder for families, veterans, and seniors to get help when they need it.<\/li>
                • Republicans have limited future updates to food assistance programs through the Thrifty Food Plan, potentially preventing families from being able to afford healthy food in the future and ignoring real-world costs.<\/li>

                    The Republican tax law adds to recent threats to Nevada’s tourism economy, including the President’s chaotic tariffs and harmful rhetoric that puts jobs at risk.<\/strong><\/p>

                    • The law cuts nearly 80% of BrandUSA’s funding, an agency responsible for promoting U.S. destinations like Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe to the world and bringing tourists to our state.<\/li>
                    • Republicans have also added a $250 tourist fee, making it more expensive to visit Nevada and driving potential tourists to other countries.<\/li><\/ul> <\/div>\n\t\t \n
                      \n\t\t\t\t

                      Nevada’s economy counts on tourism, including tens of thousands of workers and small businesses in our hospitality and gaming industries. This legislation will drive visitors away and harm our economy.<\/strong><\/p>

                      • The Republican tax law includes a provision raising taxes on gambling losses, forcing people to potentially pay taxes on money they never had.<\/li>
